Attention those who participate in the Aetna Trail program.
You may have already received this information but wanted to make sure everyone is aware of it.
It boils down that this is an administrative action on the part of Aetna and that it does not have any bearing on our benefits.
Alice Medenwald
NEIU SUAA Chapter President
This email is for all TRAIL members! Everyone 65 and older who are enrolled in the TRAIL should have received the attached letter from Aetna.
This is to let you know that you shouldn’t be alarmed. Since SUAA has received calls about the letter, I am providing the explanation:
Federal CMS has what is called H contracts. H contracts are what insurance companies must file any updates or changes to Federal CMS for approval. Aetna is moving all its employer group plans to a new H contract so that all of the employer groups are under one H contract and all of the individual (or street plans) will be on their own H contract. It is just a way for Aetna to better monitor, process filings and service the two types of Medicare plans.
It literally has no impact to TRAIL members. You will receive a more formal notification, with Federal CMS language, right before your Open Federal CMS. The pre-letter is much softer and explains things that come from your employer group, the State of Illinois.
If you were on the United Healthcare plan back in 2014/2015 they did the same thing and had to send out notifications.
Aetna is just following Federal CMS rules.
Have a great weekend!
